Alfred Smith

Cobleskill - Mr. Alfred E. Smith 80, of Clinton Circle, died Saturday, February 7, 2009 at his residence.
Born September 2, 1928, in Liberty, NY, he was the son of Thomas J. and Margaret (Westfall) Smith.
He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp., serving from 1946 until receiving an honorable discharge in 1948.
Mr. Smith was a graduate of Albany Business School and had operated a dairy farm in Sharon Springs for 18 years, prior to retiring. It was then that Mr. Smith was a painter.
He had resided in Cobleskill since 1991 and was a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church of Cobleskill.
Mr. Smith was predeceased by a son, Thomas Smith, who died in 1957, and a sister, Marie Gleason who died in 2006.
Survivors include his wife, Jane (Ramsey) Smith, whom he married September 30, 1950; three daughters: Patricia King of Madison, WI, Kathleen Mahar of Lake Elmore, VT, and Colleen Smith of Bristol, VT; three sons: Michael Smith of Kingston, NY, Mark Smith of Morrisville, NY, and Matthew Smith of Schenectady, NY; two sisters: Cathryn Baker of Livingston Manor, NY, and Evelyn Perraudin of Burlington, VT; 8 grandchildren, and 1 great-grandson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00 PM, on Wednesday, February 11, 2009 at St. Vincent de Paul Church 138 Washington Ave. Cobleskill, with Father Thomas Holmes as celebrant. Friends are also invited to a time of visitation which will be held at St. Vincent de Paul Church on Wednesday, from 11 AM to 12 PM, prior to the Mass. Spring interment will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
