Richmondville- Albert R. Erland, "Al B', 81, of High St., died Friday, July 15, 2011 at St. Peter's Hospital in Albany following a short illness.
Born March 21, 1930 in Port Jefferson, NY, he was the son of Charles E. and Elsie (Smith) Erland.
Albert was raised on the family farm on Long Island and moved to Schoharie County to live with his brother, Calvin, for many years prior to residing at the River Street House in Middleburgh. In 1999, Albert moved to Richmondville and enjoyed meeting people and eating at the former Village Cupboard in Richmondville.
He was active in the Schoharie County ARC Day Treatment program and Family Care Home.
Survivors include his nieces and nephews: Kathy (Dennis) Cowhig, and their daughter, Rose of PA, Kenny (Kathy) Erland, and their sons, Kyle and Ryan of CT, Debbie Rea and her son, David, Dennis (Lorraine) Erland, and daughters, Erica and Denise of Maine, Elsie (Larry) Trafton, and their children, Jennifer Trafton of Surprise, AZ, and Eric Trafton of St. Johnsville, NY and his daughter Ashley, Ida (Douglas) Belknap of Schoharie and her children, Sara Mereness Teul (Jeremy) and their children, Callina, Noah, and Annleigh of PA, Danielle Mereness and her children, Daniel and Natalia of Warnerville, Amanda Mereness (Roger) and her daughter, Grace of Kansas, Robert Erland of Stamford, NY, and Carol Bustinza of New Braunfels, TX and her daughter, Melodie Brower of MA; sister-in-law: Ruth Erland, and longtime dear friend, Mike Lawyer of Schoharie.
A funeral service will be held at 12:00 PM (noon) on Tuesday, July 19, 2011 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation that be held at the church prior to the service on Tuesday, from 10 AM until 12 PM. Burial will be Wednesday at St. James Episcopal Church Cemetery, St. James, NY.
