Cobleskill- Madeline Montario, 99, of Clinton Circle, died Wednesday, May 10, 2017 at the Teresian House in Albany where she had been a resident for the past 6 months.
Born February 3, 1918 in Manhattan, she was the daughter of Anthony and Katherine (Marchiano) Brescia. She was resided in Brooklyn and then moved to East Durham before living in Cobleskill for the past thirty-nine years. While in East Durham she was a communicant of St. Mary's and taught religious education. Madeline became a communicant of St. Vincent de Paul Church when she moved to Cobleskill.
Madeline's family was her passion. She leaves behind a legacy of love, humility, gentleness, kindness, and patience. She loved cooking for the family and baking breads, along with knitting, crocheting, reading, and watching birds. Madeline truly enjoyed assisting in the daily operations of her son's greenhouse for twenty-nine years. At the former Cave Country Greenery, she performed all tasks, from planting the seeds to advising customers, and being the cashier.
Along with her parents, Madeline was predeceased by her husband, Andrew L. Montario, who died Oct. 19, 1994 and her sister Stella.
Her memories will be cherished by her three children: Andrea (Dan) Hayden of Herndon, VA, Lorraine (Nicholas) Barone of Brooklyn, and Michael (Elizabeth) Montario of Howes Cave; five grandchildren: Michael (Lindsay) Montario, Andrew Montario, Matthew Montario, Maria Hayden, and Kellie Hayden; three great-grandchildren: Michael, Madeline, and Mack Montario; her brother: Benjamin (Anne) Brescia of Long Island; and her brother-in-law: Salvatore (Joan) LaReddola of New Jersey.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Ave., Cobleskill with Rev. Thomas F. Berardi as celebrant. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6 to 8 PM on Monday at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill. Burial will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.
Madeline's family is grateful to all of her caregivers that saw to her needs at home and then in the Teresian House.
