Cobleskill- Joyce S. Cary, 87, formerly of Cobleskill, died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Our Lady of Mercy in Guilderland.

Born October 22, 1929 in Cobleskill, she was the daughter of Harley and Evelyn (Coons) Slater.

Joyce was employed at Cobleskill Regional Hospital for twenty-seven years as a secretary in Ambulatory Care. She was a volunteer for several years for Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc. She was a member of the Primrose Rebekah Lodge and the former Seward Grange, the Warnerville United Methodist Church, and served as a Cub Scout Den Mother.

Joyce enjoyed camping in her younger years with the family, growing, selling, and operating her business, "The House of Herbs", researching genealogy, and collecting gnomes.

She and her husband, Bill, wintered in Florida for many years, and resided for eight years in Sebring, FL where she volunteered at Sebring Nursing Home, Habitat for Humanity and the local children's' home.

Joyce was married to William D. Cary, Sr. on October 26, 1947 and he predeceased her on January 7, 2013. Her son, Jeffrey A. Cary predeceased her on April 19, 2006 and her sister, Lillian Beams shares the same date of death as her, Feb. 28, 2017, two other sisters, Virginia Simpson and Audrey Burger and her brothers, Richard and Carlton Slater.

Survivors include her two sons: William D. Cary, Jr. of Cobleskill and Michael A. (Susan) Cimino-Cary of Cobleskill; four grandchildren: Heather E. Cary of Gulfport, FL, Susan Michele (Jason) Palmer of Townsend, MA, Valerie M. MacPherson of Rochester, and April I. (Masa) Kunlya of Queens; and four great-grandchildren: Ryan Joseph Palmer and Nicholas Gavigan Palmer of Townsend, MA and Liam James MacPherson and Grace Harper MacPherson of Rochester.

A memorial service will be held at 11 AM Monday, March 6, 2017 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill with Rev. Marvin Batcher officiating. Family and friends are also invited to a period of visitation to be held at the funeral from 10 AM to 11 AM, prior to the service. Inurnment will be in Cobleskill Rural Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Catskill Area Hospice and Palliative Care, Inc., 1 Birchwood Dr. Dept FH, Oneonta, NY 13920-1319.
