Hyndsville - John C. Cambridge, 78, of State Route 10, died Sunday, October 9, 2016 at his residence.
Born December 28, 1937 in Long Lake, NY, he was the son of the late Arthur G. and Emily (Poppleton) Cambridge.
He was a 1958 graduate of Houghton Academy. John enlisted in the United States Army in 1961 and proudly served his country until receiving an honorable discharge in 1963.
He retired from Beech Nut Factory in 1997 and then was a bus driver for Cobleskill Richmondville Central School District until 2014. For the past few years, John worked at the Cobleskill Fairgrounds and Great Escape during the summer season.
John enjoyed camping and outdoor activites, but especially found joy in spending time with his grandchildren.
Besides his parents, his wife, Marie (Markle) Cambridge, predeceased him.
Survivors include his daughter: Karen Barner of Hyndsville; two grandchildren: Sebashtian Cambridge of Glens Falls and Vidalia Barner of Hyndsville; two sisters: Eileen (Conrad) Daniels of Michigan and Margaret (Milton) Spring of Champlain, NY; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Mereness-Putnam Funeral Home, 171 Elm St., Cobleskill where a period of visitation will take place prior to the service from 10 to 11 AM. Burial will follow with military honors in Zion Rural Cemetery. Rev. Pamela Mikel Hayes of the Cobleskill United Methodist Church will officiate.
