Vincent Q. Virgilio, 86, of  Cobleskill, New York, died Sunday, May 13, 2018 at Ellis Hospital, in Schenectady, NY.

Born September 10, 1931 in Newark, New Jersey, he was the son of James and Josephine (Sarullo) Virgilio. 

Vincent was a United States Air Force veteran, serving from 1949 until 1952 when he received an honorable discharge.  He played in the Army/Air Force Band of the West in Korea.  After being honorably discharged, he played with the following Big Bands:  Benny Goodman, Ralph Flanagan, and the Sammy Kay Orchestras.  He also played in various Broadway musicals and for the Rockettes. 

He attended Thomas Jefferson High School in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  He received his Bachelor of Science degree in music education from New York University and his Master’s degree in music from Trenton State College.

Vincent began his teaching career in Woodcliff Lake, New Jersey, with his longest tenure in the East Ramapo School District at East Ramapo High School.  After 37 years as a music educator, he retired in 1994.

He married Barbara Miller in 1957, and they had four children:  Victoria (Stewart), Donna (Farrington), Dr. James Virgilio, and Vincent Paul Virgilio, who passed away from leukemia in 1994.  Barbara passed away from cancer in 2003.

In 2006, he met Sharon Volpe, a Cobleskill-Richmondville School District art teacher, while both were serving on their parish council, and they later married in 2011.

Survivors include his wife, Sharon (Volpe) Virgilio; his three children:  two daughters, Victoria (Stewart), of Carlisle, NY and Donna (Farrington), of Lake George, NY and a son, Dr. James Virgilio, of Boca Raton, FL; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and a brother, Raymond Virgilio, of McClain, VA.

Family and friends are invited to a period of visitation to be held from 6-9 pm on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Avenue, Cobleskill.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am on Friday, May 18, at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Avenue, Cobleskill, and burial with military honors will follow at St. Vincent de Paul Cemetery. 

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Vincent de Paul Church, 138 Washington Avenue, Cobleskill, NY  12043 or St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 1 Church Street, Cherry Valley, NY  13320.
